Year 4

In Year 4, the children are taught by Mrs Sycamore and children take part in daily Maths and English lessons while also developing a broad range of skills through engaging, cross-curricular topics throughout the year.

Autumn Term – The Ancient Greeks

We begin the year by delving into the fascinating world of the Ancient Greeks. Using a variety of historical sources, children will investigate this important period in history, learning about Greek life, culture, mythology, and the lasting legacy of their ideas and inventions. This theme will also inspire work in English, where it will be used to enrich both reading and writing activities.

In Computing, the focus will be on E-safety and understanding different types of technology and their impact on our daily lives.

Spring Term – Our Local Area

In the spring term, we explore what makes Castle Donington such a special place to live and compare it with another location. In Science, children will investigate electricity and sound through practical, hands-on activities designed to deepen their understanding.

Computing lessons will focus on data handling, software use, and appropriate online behaviour.

A highlight of the term will be the opportunity to attend and perform in the Young Voices concert—an exciting event the children will have been preparing for throughout the Autumn and Spring terms.

Summer Term – Celebrating Diversity and Creativity

Throughout the year, children take part in regular PSHE lessons, which continue in the Summer Term with a focus on SRE (Sex and Relationships Education) and learning about different religions and cultures in Religious Studies.

In Computing, the emphasis will shift to programming—developing, debugging, and creating simple programs. Children will also have the chance to learn to play the recorder, culminating in a performance at a school event.
